Eminent Odissi Danseuse Smt Suprava Mishra was honoured by Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukharjee with ‘Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Award’.

Smt Suprava Mishra an eminent Odissi Danseuse, writer & Choreographer of Gujarat was honoured with prestigious IndiraGandhi Rajbhasha Award’ by Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukharjee on 14th Sept 2014 at Rastrapati Bhavan New Delhi. Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and Smt. Neeta Chaudhury, Secretary, Dept of Official Language, Govt of India were also present in this function. She got this award for her book “Odissi Nrutya aur Bharatiya Sanskruti” (in Hindi) which is selected by the Department of official language, Ministry of home, Govt of India from the number of books received from all over India.

At present She is working as Assistant Director at BSNL Ahmedabad.

There are three main parts in the book. In the first part, she has explain in detail about Bharatiya Sangeet, Dance and Spirituality, Temples of India and dance, Religion and Dance, Indian Theatre, Aesthetics and Dance, The relation of different art form with dance, Guru-Sishya Tradition in Indian Culture, The emerging of modern dance from Indian Classical Dance, Important Folk Dances of India. In Second part, it is about the Dance tradition in Odisha in Jain Yuga and Baudha Yuga, The evolution to present day Odissi from Kharavela Yuga, The evolution of modern dance from ballet dance, Natraj in Odisha Sculpture, Bandha Nrutya, Description of different traditional songs of Odisha, Live of Kabichandra Kalicharan– the father of Odissi Dance., Different folk Dances of Odisha , A brief review of ‘Kishor Chandrananda Champu’ of Kabisurya Baladev Ratha , Review of Kalidas’s‘Abhigyan Sakuntalam’. In third part, it is about the practical aspect of Odissi Dance. Chapters are Ashtasmbhu, Nabarasa,Dasabatara, Geeta gobinda, Karana , Angahar, Beli, Mahari, Different parts of Odissi Dance like Mangalacharan, Batu, Pallavi,Abhinaya and Mokhya are included with their notation. In mangalacharan Ganesh Stuti, Ganesh Tandav, NarayanaStuti,Shivastaka, ShivaTandava, Panchatatwa Stuti, Harihara Sabda, Mahakali Stuti etc are included. Notation of different Pallavilike Kalavati, Kalyan, Vasant, Mohana, Saveri, Hansadhwani are included. Abhinaya in Debanagari script with meaning in Hindi is included.

Her first book, ‘Bhartiya Nrutya’ (in Hindi ) was published in 2004 and was appreciated by dance gurus, scholars and students all over the India. Her third book Dwarakara Suryasta in Odiya Language (Translated from Gujarati) published in 2014 well appreciated by the scholars of Odiya literature. She was also awarded ‘Gujarat Gaurav Puraskar’ by Gujarat Sangeet natakAcademy, Govt of Gujarat in the year 2013 for outstanding work in the field of Odissi Classical Dance in Gujarat state.
